Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinay Kumar Saxena ordered Mayor Shaili Oberoi to immediately conduct the election of the standing committee members. LG has said that if the Mayor does not agree to the elections then the Deputy Mayor should preside. Even after this, if the Deputy Mayor is not ready, the senior councilor should preside over the meeting. There is news that the election for the sixth member of the Standing Committee will not be held today. The date and time of elections will be informed later.
Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party councilors created a ruckus in the MCD House meeting regarding the ban on entry with mobile phones. They staged a protest outside the House and raised slogans against the Commissioner. He said that the use of mobile phones is his right to express himself and such a restriction is unacceptable. At the same time, BJP councilors raised slogans inside the House against the postponement of the House meeting till October 5. Apart from this, they staged a protest outside the Mayor’s office.
AAP councilors said that regarding the ban on mobile phones, they termed the commissioner’s order as dictatorial and demanded its immediate withdrawal. Not only this, they raised slogans and questioned the functioning of the Commissioner. He alleged that the commissioner was working at the behest of BJP. He will not obey such orders. They staged a sit-in outside the House for about two hours and raised slogans.
On the other hand, BJP councilors accused the Mayor’s move of postponing the meeting till October 5 of postponing the formation of the standing committee. After raising slogans for a long time inside the House, they staged a protest outside the Mayor’s office.
