UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said on Wednesday that a total of liquor, drugs, precious metals, free gifts and cash etc. worth Rs 85.90 crore were seized by the Excise, Income Tax, Police and Narcotics Department and other enforcement agencies from March 1 to March 26. He said that till now 40,50,070 publicity materials have been removed from public and private places to ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct. During this period, action was taken in 2,71,749 cases of wall writing, 11,44,518 of posters, 7,17,127 of banners and 3,39,342 other cases in public places.
Similarly, action was taken in 2,00,339 cases of wall writing, 7,25,892 of posters, 4,19,126 of banners and other 2,31,977 cases in private places. So far, action has been taken in 416 cases of misuse of beacon lights and flags in vehicles and 884 cases of violation of the Loudspeaker Act. A total of 18 cases, including 17 FIRs and one NCR, have been registered for holding meetings and speeches without permission, luring voters, distributing cash and other matters.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that 513 inter-state check posts and 1845 check posts have been made within the state for intensive checking. The police have deposited 4,00,796 licensed weapons till March 26. Apart from this, 298 licensed weapons of criminal persons have been seized. 3,749 licensed weapons have been canceled and deposited. Police raided 373 centers manufacturing illegal weapons, 54 centers were seized.
