From the Supreme Court to the High Court, they are now insisting on live streaming of proceedings in the court room. This is being done for the direct access of the court to the people. This also benefits the people interested in court matters, while transparency also remains. Now live streaming has started in Kerala High Court as well. Kerala High Court did live streaming on YouTube for the first time on Saturday 3 December.
Actually, the Kerala High Court bench held a special hearing on Saturday, because cases are not usually heard on Saturdays. In this case, the constitutional validity of the notification issued by the Travancore Devaswom Board was challenged. In this notification, the board had sought applications for the post of chief priest of Sabarimala and Malikapuram temples.
The case was placed before the Chief Justice
Many petitioners are involved in this case, one of them, Sijith TL, questioned the decision of the Travancore Devaswom Board. The matter was placed before the Chief Justice. After which the bench of Justice Anil K Narendran and Justice PG Ajit Kumar heard the matter. Along with this, live streaming of the hearing of this case was also started. This was the first case when live streaming of a case took place in the Kerala High Court.
Why was the petition filed?
Actually, the petitioners also include the person who has claimed that he is the most qualified priest according to the notification issued by the Travancore Devaswom Board. However, he does not meet the board’s condition that only Malayalam Brahmins born in Kerala will be given a chance to apply. This is the reason why he has moved the High Court. The petitioner himself had demanded from the court that live streaming of the case should be done. Now the next hearing of the case will be on December 17.
