Lohri Special 2024: Lohri is the first festival of the year. Every year Lohri is celebrated with great pomp throughout the country. Especially this festival is celebrated in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. Lohri is celebrated to celebrate the harvest. Lohri is celebrated to symbolize the end of the winter season. In this festival, people light a fire and sing songs along with dancing around it. Also, there are many folk stories related to this day. Lohri is also dedicated to great men. Dulla Bhatti – known for his courage and bravery in saving young girls from being sold into slavery and married at an early age during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Many Lohri songs are dedicated to Dulla Bhatti.
Lohri is also known for delicious dishes prepared at home. From makki ki roti to sarson da saag, Lohri is a time to gather with loved ones and enjoy delicious dishes. Here are two recipes of special Lohri dishes that are easy to make at home.
Peanut Chikki:
Material:
100 grams raw peanuts
1 cup chopped jaggery
ghee for lubrication
Method:
Grease the barfi tray with ghee. Fry the peanuts until they turn light brown and then peel them and cut them in half. Then heat jaggery in a pan and add roasted peanuts to it and mix everything together. Spread the peanut mixture on a greased tray. Cut into square pieces and let it cool before serving.
Sesame Jaggery Laddu
Material:
1½ cups white sesame seeds
¾ cup dry coconut, grated
1 tbsp ghee
1½ cups chikki wala jaggery
1 cup peanuts, roasted and crushed
¾ cup roasted chana dal
a pinch of nutmeg powder
Method
Dry roast white sesame seeds and keep aside to cool. Then fry the dry coconut and keep it aside. Add ghee and jaggery in a pan and melt it and cook until it becomes a hard ball. Then add dry roasted sesame seeds, dry coconut, melted jaggery, peanuts, roasted gram dal and nutmeg powder and mix. Mix everything together and make and serve laddus while the mixture is still hot.
