Lok Sabha Elections: The results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared on June 4 and the BJP-led NDA alliance got a majority, but the BJP remained short of the majority figure by winning 240 seats. On the other hand, the INDIA alliance gave a tough challenge and won 234 seats. However, an assessment of the decline in the number of BJP seats in UP, Haryana and Rajasthan shows that Jat, Dalit and Muslim votes contributed significantly to the opposition’s victory, which also includes the party’s poor election management.
However, the BJP is yet to begin its election review process, reports the Indian Express. Meanwhile, sources said the party’s performance will be “reviewed and assessed at multiple levels” before the findings are sent to the central leadership and the process is likely to take months. Due to inflation and unemployment, BJP lost 45 seats
At the same time, these BJP leaders say that due to unemployment and inflation, the party suffered a loss of 45 seats in these three states. Due to this poor performance, BJP lost its majority in the Lok Sabha. In fact, BJP won 62 seats in UP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but was reduced to 33 in the state. Whereas, in Rajasthan, it came down from 25 to 14 seats and in Haryana its number decreased from 10 to only 5.
Activists’ warnings were ignored
BJP leaders believe that the opposition’s campaign that if the NDA wins more than 400 seats, the Constitution will be in danger has caused a lot of damage to the party. BJP leaders believe that Jats in Rajasthan have supported BJP for a long time, including the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but this time due to the sentiments of the community against the BJP, the party had to face defeat in many Jat-dominated seats. At the same time, in UP, RLD won its Baghpat and Bijnor Lok Sabha seats. Whereas, Sanjeev Baliyan also lost from Jat-dominated seat Muzaffarnagar. At the same time, in Haryana, BJP also lost seats like Ambala, Sirsa, Hisar, Sonipat and Rohtak.
BJP’s victory count on SC/ST seats decreased
BJP has also suffered a setback in the seats reserved for SCs across the country. Out of 84 SC seats, its number has come down from 46 to 30, while Congress, which had won only 6 such seats last time, won 20 seats this time. Out of 47 seats reserved for ST seats, BJP’s number has come down from 31 to 25, while Congress’s seats have increased from 4 to 12. BJP leaders say that the opposition India Alliance has succeeded in running its election campaign properly among the SC/ST community on the issue of constitution and reservation.
BJP’s poor election management
BJP leaders say that lack of enthusiastic workers was also a reason for poor performance. Due to which the voting percentage was low in urban seats considered to be the stronghold of BJP. Due to which there has been an 18% decline in votes in urban areas and this has directly affected the BJP. On the other hand, Rajasthan, which had the highest voter turnout in the last 18 years, has also seen a decline in the number of votes in the last 18 years. Lok Sabha Elections And barring Jaipur, where the party had voted heavily for the BJP in the recent assembly elections, its vote share declined in all 14 seats.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders believe that mismanagement during the election campaign also contributed to the party losing ground. In Rajasthan, state president CP Joshi was busy with his campaign in Chittorgarh. Whereas, in Haryana, BJP state president Nayab Singh Saini became the CM, due to which there was no coordination between the two states.
