Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Before the fifth phase of voting, the Election Commission of India has appealed to the leaders of political parties. The ECI on Tuesday (May 14) said it expects top leaders of political parties to set good examples of dialogue during the election campaign. Also, he should not spoil the delicate fabric of the society with his statements.
Along with this, the Election Commission appealed to the leaders of political parties for the remaining phases and asked them to give the right direction to their statements in the remaining phases of the elections. According to the report of Hindustan Times, in its second suo motu report on the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, the Election Commission also clarified the decision of sending notices to the party chiefs.
What did the Election Commission say?
ECI said, “The Commission has adopted a new advisory with effect from March 1, 2024.” Under this, party presidents and general secretaries of all recognized political parties have been requested to ask their leaders, candidates and star campaigners not to give such speeches or statements which directly or indirectly violate the Model Code of Conduct. “
‘It is the responsibility of party heads to stop violation of code of conduct’
The Election Commission of India said, “The Commission has taken the view that on the one hand, individual star campaigners/leaders/candidates will remain responsible for their speeches. At the same time, the ECI will address the party president/head of the political party as parties on a case-to-case basis, as it is the prime responsibility of the parties to prevent star campaigners from committing such violations.
TMC raised questions on Election Commission
However, meanwhile, Trinamool Congress has asked the Election Commission to stop the violation of code of conduct by BJP leaders. He alleged that the model code of conduct has turned into the Modi code of conduct. TMC MPs Sagarika Ghosh and Saket Gokhale have raised questions by writing a letter to the Election Commission. TMC said, “We have written a letter to the Election Commission demanding that the Model Code of Conduct be strictly implemented for the remaining phases of the elections. Also, Prime Minister Modi should not be given a clean chit every time he violates the election rules. ”
