Two ward councillors and two councillor husbands of Jhanjharpur Municipal Council of Madhubani district were arrested by the police in an inebriated condition while they were returning after visiting the famous Sakra Bhagwati temple in Nepal.

According to the information, a total of eight people were travelling in the same vehicle who were returning after offering prayers at Sakra Bhagwati in Nepal. At the same time, the Excise Department team under the leadership of Amarendra Kumar was conducting checking under the prohibition law at Neyor check post of the district. During that time, four persons of Jhanjharpur Nagar Parishad were completely drunk, who were arrested by the team.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ward Councillor Prakash Kumar of Ward-5 of Jhanjharpur Municipal Council, Ward Councillor Shiv Chaupal of Ward-25, Ward Councillor husband Rash Lal Rai of Ward-3 and Ward Councillor husband Anil Das of Ward-18. All the arrested persons were produced by the Excise Department in the court of ADJ-2 Raghavendra Vikram Singh of the Prohibition Court of Jhanjharpur.

ASI Amarendra Kumar of the Excise Department said that eight people were travelling in the same vehicle while returning from Sakra Bhagwati in Nepal. Four of them were found to be under the influence of alcohol. Apart from ASI Amarendra Kumar, Sunny Kumar and Roshan Kumar, the Excise Department team comprised five people. The arrest of the ward councillor and the ward councillor’s husband has become a topic of discussion in the Nagar Parishad Jhanjharpur.
