Magic pillow…relieves migraine-stress in a jiffy; you will fall asleep as soon as you lay down your head
A farmer has made an antibiotic pillow, which is proving effective in relieving migraine, stress, fatigue and skin related diseases. The special thing is that it is made from waste. (Report- Anuj Gautam / Sagar)

Sagar’s natural organic agriculture expert Akash Chaurasia is another name for innovations. This time he has prepared a native antibiotic pillow from turmeric waste, which is proving to be effective in relieving migraine, stress, fatigue and skin related diseases. Sleeping with this on also helps in getting better sleep. Akash claims that a farmer can earn up to Rs 1 lakh from the wastage of turmeric crop of one acre. Once used this pillow can be used comfortably for 6 to 8 months.

A pillow made from turmeric leaves is full of antibiotic properties. It also has a mild essential fragrance, which makes sleep even better. Also, due to having antibiotic properties, it is beneficial in skin related diseases and it also keeps you away from problems like bacteria and viruses.

The farmer has kept its price at Rs 500 including all the expenses, so that people of all sections can buy it. Rural women have been employed to make it. About 200 pillows can easily be made from leaves of one acre, which is approximately Rs 1 lakh as income. After removing all the expenses, the net profit is around Rs 60,000 per acre. In this way, the farmer can increase his income by making the best product from his crop waste and can also move towards self-reliance by solving health related problems.

While taking leaves, care has to be taken that there is no moisture in the leaves and they should not be 100 percent dry. These should contain about 2 to 5 percent moisture. There should be only soft part of the leaf. There should not be humid weather while filling the pillow case with leaves. It would be better if the leaves are from turmeric grown in multilayer farming technique. There should not be any gap while filling the leaves.

Akash Chaurasia, a farmer doing multi-layer farming, does natural organic farming at his farm house, 7 kilometers away from Sagar city. In this, he organizes workshops for farmers and gives free training to connect farmers with organic farming. Till now he has told the formula for making pillows from waste to hundreds of farmers.

According to Akash, whatever crop the farmer brothers grow. That fruit itself is considered a source of income, whereas it is not so. Every part of the crop can be used and included in the income. Nothing created by nature is without any quality. Similarly, turmeric leaves also have medicinal properties. Their leaves are dried in the shade and filled with 20 percent cotton or 100 percent soft leaves in a 1.5 feet x 1 feet shell and stitched. Then another shell is placed on top of it.
