Maharashtra-Jharkhand Assembly Elections: Voting for assembly elections and by-elections will be held on Wednesday (November 20, 2024) in many states across the country. These include 38 assembly seats of Jharkhand. Apart from this, voting will be held on 288 seats of Maharashtra in a single phase. Along with this, votes will be cast for by-elections in 15 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Uttarakhand. According to the Election Commission, voting will start on these seats at 7 in the morning and will continue till 6 in the evening. Their results will be revealed on November 23.

First of all let’s talk about Maharashtra, where voting will be held on 288 assembly seats. Here the main contest will be seen between the ruling Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi. The contest here also becomes special because six big political parties are contesting the elections under two big alliances. Second and final phase of Jharkhand assembly elections
Voting is going to be held on 38 out of total 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand on Wednesday, in which there will be a contest between Bharatiya Janata Party and NDA. Voting has taken place on 43 seats in the first phase here. In the second and final phase, apart from Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his wife Kalpana Soren (both JMM) and opposition leader Amar Kumar Bauri (BJP), more than 500 other candidates are in the fray.
The 2019 assembly elections were a close contest, with JMM winning 30 seats and BJP securing 25 seats, down from 37 in 2014. JMM-Congress-RJD alliance won majority with 47 seats.
By-elections are to be held here
Talking about the by-elections to be held in four states, by-elections are to be held on 15 seats in Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab and Uttarakhand. First of all, if we talk about big Uttar Pradesh, voting will be held on nine seats here. There are 90 candidates in the fray on these seats, out of which Ghaziabad has the maximum number of 14 candidates. After the poor performance in the Lok Sabha elections, it becomes very important for BJP to win these seats in UP because it will have a direct impact on the assembly elections to be held in 2027.

Tough competition on four seats of Punjab
Talking about Punjab, even though the Aam Aadmi Party government performed brilliantly in the assembly elections, Lok Sabha elections AAP won only three seats – Hoshiarpur, Anandpur Sahib and Sangrur. By-elections are to be held on four seats here.
