The number of active cases in Maharashtra has increased to 1,308. Dr. Pradeep Awate, a senior health department official, said that Covid-19 has now become ‘local’ like influenza or other viral diseases, and will spike with daily minimum-maximum temperature fluctuations due to seasonal changes.

Dismissing the recent spike as any kind of ‘wave’, Dr Awate said, currently, in post-winter and post-monsoon climatic conditions, there has been an average increase of 5 per cent in Covid-19 cases , and should be careful. He said that for influenza, there are vaccines specified by WHO every year depending on its type or severity and administered with effectiveness for one year every year to certain target sections of the population depending on age or with co-morbidities. are done.

Dr Awate said, since Covid-19 continues to have an impact, and has been mutating into different strains for the past three years, no specific vaccine has been developed for routine use, but it will happen in due course. Maharashtra has recorded a total of 81,39,737 Covid-19 cases and 148,428 deaths, the highest in the country. Mumbai and Pune districts are the most affected in the state in terms of infections and deaths. Mumbai has so far recorded 11,54,903 cases and 19,747 deaths as compared to Pune’s 15,06,257 infections and 20,608 deaths.
