Khadi Bhawan Record Sale: On the occasion of the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the sale of Khadi products set a new record. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to buy indigenous and local products, Khadi products worth Rs 2 crore 1 lakh 37 thousand were sold in just one day at Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, New Delhi.
In the 114th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on September 29, the Prime Minister had appealed to the countrymen to purchase ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Made in India’ products. Prime Minister Modi had said, “Friends, in this festive season, please repeat your old resolution again. Whatever you buy, it should be ‘Made in India’, anything you gift should also be ‘Made in India’. It should be ‘in India’ only. Buying earthen lamps is not ‘vocal for local’. You should promote as much as possible the local products which are made in India. Whatever is made by the sweat of the artisan in the soil of India is our pride, we have to always cherish this pride.”
The huge sale on Gandhi Jayanti has also brought a new change in the lives of Khadi artisans. This immense success has further strengthened the ‘Charkha Revolution’ which started 10 years ago, which is now being seen as the ‘guarantee of developed India’. This year’s sales broke all previous records and this shows the increasing inclination of people towards Khadi.
The sales figures of Khadi Bhawan for the last few years are as follows:
- 2021: Rs 1.01 crore
- 2022: Rs 1.34 crore
- 2023: Rs 1.52 crore
- 2024: Rs 2.01 crore
‘Charkha Revolution’ now ‘Guarantee of Developed India’
Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Manoj Kumar said, “Under the leadership of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ‘Charkha Revolution’ has now become the ‘Guarantee of Developed India’.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi On the appeal of, the best record has been made in the purchase of Khadi and village industry products in Delhi. The sales figures at Khadi Bhawan are as follows:
- Cotton Khadi: Rs 67.32 lakh
- Silk Khadi: Rs 44.75 lakh
- Woolen Khadi: Rs 7.61 lakh
- Poly Khadi: Rs 1.87 lakh
- Readymade Khadi: Rs 65.09 lakh
- Village Industries Products: Rs 12.29 lakh
- Handicraft Products: Rs 2.44 Lakh
Huge increase in sales of cotton khadi
This time there has been maximum increase in the sales of cotton khadi as compared to last year. The sale of cotton khadi in 2023 was Rs 26.89 lakh, which has increased by 150.35 percent this time to Rs 67.32 lakh. The increasing sale of readymade clothes indicates that youth are increasingly adopting Khadi.
