Speech given in June 1947
On June 3, 1947, Lord Mountbatten formally declared India’s independence and also announced the partition of India. This day is also known as Mountbatten Plan. Before that, on June 1, 1947, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had given a speech addressing all the people of the country. In this speech he talked about India’s independence. “I cannot clap with one hand. If I get all the hands, I can clap big and then I can make the whole world laugh. Everyone can contribute in their own place and I have no doubt that India can become like the one I tell you about.”
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose gave the title of Father of the Nation
Mahatma Gandhi was given the title of Father of the Nation by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Since then the whole country started knowing him by the name of the Father of the Nation. In the year 1944, through radio administration broadcast from Singapore, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose had addressed Mahatma Gandhi as the Father of the Nation. This was Netaji’s deep respect and reverence for Bapu.
