Mai Review: A slightly different tale of revenge against her daughter’s murderers

Mai Review: A slightly different tale of revenge against her daughter’s murderers

Producers of offbeat films like ‘NH10’, ‘Phillauri’, ‘Pari’ and ‘Bulbul’ and web series like Paatal Lok, one thing definitely comes to mind after seeing the name Clean Slate Films. ‘ There will definitely be an offbeat web series. To some extent the claim also turns out to be true. This web series released on Netflix is a web series to sit and watch in one sitting but it will not be able to become as memorable as Paatal Lok. There can be many reasons, but one thing is known to the audience in this web series that Sakshi Tanwar is the actress who is the queen of her heart and does only those roles which she likes and understands. His dear friend Ekta Kapoor also confirms this fact. Sakshi Tanwar’s acting talent has once again convinced me in this web series. Not that Sakshi’s work in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki or Bade Achhe Lagte Hain was commendable but in Mai Sakshi has created a believable character with the help of her old cotton sarees, no makeup and disheveled hair look. Due to the lack of screenplay, the audience is not able to relate to the drama of the story and because of this Mai’s fate is not similar to Paatal Lok.

Mai is a good web series. There are a total of 6 episodes and they move fast, so there is no boredom, but the emotional attachment that should happen with the main character in this type of story did not happen because we have seen two films on this type of story in the last few years. One Raveena Tandon’s film ‘Maatr’ and one Sridevi’s film ‘Mom’. By the way, my name is also a synonym of these. Sakshi Tanwar is a nurse in an old age home and also works in her brother-in-law’s clinic. Her husband (Vivek Mushran) works as an electrician. The daughter (Vamika Gabbi) is a doctor. Sakshi and Vivek had adopted their son, Vivek’s elder brother, because they had no children and owed a lot to Sakshi-Vivek. One day suddenly Sakshi’s daughter meets with an accident in front of a truck and she passes away. Struggling alone with her pain, Sakshi learns that her daughter may not have been killed in an accident. She tries to investigate it with the help of her limited resources. In this journey, he meets cunning leaders, their concubines, admission mafia, drug scamsters, murderers and notorious criminals. A mother is ready to do anything for her daughter but is she ready to face the truth? In this web series, small stories of changing relationships have been included without unnecessary dramatization.

The world of OTT is a bit strange. It is traditional and it is not. Due to OTT, where on one hand there is an opportunity to watch many old films, on the other hand films and web series made on completely new subjects are also available. The content of not only Indian languages but also of other languages around the world is now easily and easily available due to OTT. Sakshi’s career span is long but the work in her career is very selective. Until the role is understood, Sakshi does not say yes to any role. This is Sakshi’s first step in the lead role in OTT. Amazing confidence, amazing fear, amazing courage and amazing fear, Sakshi is wonderful as a mother. Has done a better job than Raveena and Sridevi. Sakshi has done full justice to the character of a lower middle class woman who grew up on the mercy of her brother-in-law, whose husband was no better than her brother and whose daughter was also struggling for her identity. Vivek Mushran’s character is also excellent. Very snooty, submissive younger brother who is leading his life on the strength of his elder brother. For a moment it seems that Vivek is behind the whole game, but his character is so weak that it has to be taken for granted. Raima Sen and Prashant Narayan went well when they wrote the characters, but they made the mistake of stepping out of the characters. Prashant Narayan had also become a film actor. As the main villain, Anant automatically starts getting disgusted with Vidhat Sharma.

The twist in which the story has come to an end, it seems that the second season will also come, although the first season is not so good that one has to wait for the second season. Netflix has done this many times in the past as well, it may have stopped web series with weak seasons in the middle. The writing team included Atul Mongia, Tamal Sen, Srishti Rindani, Amita Vyas and Vishrut Singh, and yet the series failed to create any memorable moments. In an attempt to avoid melodrama, this web series became more simple than necessary. Prashant Narayan was also kept in two different roles, but the first role ended very quickly and the second one became too filmy, due to which the credibility of the story starts to be doubted. Ravi Kiran Ayyagari’s camera tries to speak a lot but does not take Sakshi Tanwar’s character to any height, due to which the fun of cinematography which has come in web series like Sacred Games or Paatal Lok, was completely missing in Mai. . The same thing can be said about Manas Mittal’s editing. Suspense was not created, so much priority was not given to any one scene that the audience could remember it because of a special occasion.

Although Mai is a good web series but it could not become the best. Even before this, the audience has rejected many web series for this reason. Some drama should have been expected but it was left somewhere. It is a small web series. If you want to see a new color of Sakshi Tanwar’s performance, then do watch it but don’t expect too much. In the race of hope, it will get only consolation prize.
