The waves of the Saryu river in Ballia created havoc on Tuesday morning. The waves of the river started moving with a loud roar. There was chaos among the residents of Gopalnagar Tadi like Ganesh Yadav, Shivji Yadav, Mukhram Yadav, Mahesh Yadav etc. at the mouth of the Saryu river. In a short while, the 100-year-old peepal tree of Makaiya Baba Sthan got submerged in the main stream of the river. The strong waves of the river started hitting the Makaiya Baba temple. Within an hour, the Makaiya Baba temple got submerged in the main stream of the Saryu river.
Makaiya Baba’s temple was the center of faith and belief for Gopalnagar. Various types of rituals used to be performed there. Diara residents say that the day is not far when Diara will be wiped out. Hundreds of acres of fertile land of the farmers here have merged into the river within a month. Farmers complain that they have not received a single rupee in the name of compensation till now.
In this regard, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bairia said that the farmers who have complained with their land number have been given compensation. The farmers who are complaining with Khatauni are being given compensation as per the rules. So far, 40 farmers have been given compensation at the rate of Rs 47 thousand per hectare. 20 people have been identified for compensation after investigation, they will also get compensation soon.
