With the arrival of January, the demand for Tilva has started increasing, due to which the market has also become buzzing. Tilva is considered the main sweet of Makar Sankranti. Its fragrant smell and booming sound have given a new freshness to the area. The process of making Tilwa is done on a large scale in Dussehra village of Mohanpur block of Samastipur district.
The specialty here is that in this village many members of the same family are involved in the business of making Tilwa. Sanjeet Shah and his family members of the village are doing this traditional work on a large scale. There is an industry of making tilva in every house and people are busy in this work the whole day.
Tilva is made on a large scale in Dussehra village
On the occasion of Makar Sankranti, the demand for Tilva increases and it creates a happy atmosphere in the market by releasing its sweet fragrance. The artisans in the shops are busy making Tilwa day and night, due to which a festive atmosphere is created in the market. The work of making Tilwa in Dussehra village is centuries old and even today this tradition is alive. Tilva is not only delicious to eat, but it has also become an important part of the economic activity for the people of Samastipur district. Sanjeet Shah, an artisan from Dussehra village, shared his experience with Local 18. He told that the work of making Tilva is traditional and has been going on for generations. Grandfather and great grandfather were also associated with this business.
Tilva is sold for Rs 100 per kg
Sanjeev Shah told that he is taking forward the work of making Tilwa by learning from his ancestors. This is a family profession and we are proud to maintain this tradition. He told that brother is the head of the panchayat. But, but this is a traditional work, which we cannot forget. Sanjit Shah also clarified the difference between Tilwa and Tilkut. He told that black sesame is used in making Tilva. Also sugar and chhena water are mixed with sesame seeds. This mixture is given the form of Tilva. He told that the rate of Tilva ranges from Rs 80 to Rs 100 per kg. Here, not only the local people but also the people going to Bachhwara, Begusarai, Vaishali, Patna etc. buy it.
