Gunpowder Masala Recipe: Gunpowder Masala is a famous South Indian spice, which is generally used as a taste maker in South Indian dishes. It is also known as “Pottu Milagu” or “Podi”. If you learn to make this masala once, then believe me, you can bring the taste of restaurant style masala Idli, Dosa etc. at home also. It is mainly prepared by roasting rice, pulses and many spices and is used to enhance the taste of food. You can also use it in normal rice, parathas etc. So let us know the simple way to make it.

Method to make Gun Powder Masala:

Material:
1/2 cup urad dal
1/4 cup white sesame seeds
1/2 cup chana dal
12-13 dry red chillies
6-7 curry leaves
1 tbsp dry coconut powder
a pinch of asafoetida
oil as required

Method of making gun powder-
First of all, heat a pan and add chana dal in it, dry roast it and keep it in a plate to cool. Now dry roast urad dal in the same pan. After frying it for 5 minutes, keep it in a plate. Now add sesame seeds in this pan and roast them until their color becomes golden. Now take them out and keep them in a plate.

Now add 1 teaspoon oil in this pan and roast dry red chillies in it. After 2 minutes, add curry leaves and fry till it becomes crispy. Take them out in a plate and let them cool. Now when all the ingredients cool down, grind them well in a grinder. Now add salt, asafoetida and coconut powder as per taste and make a powder. Your gun powder masala is ready.

Keep these things in mind,
-Always roast spices and pulses on low flame.
-You can increase or decrease the taste of chilli as per your taste.
-If you want to make it healthy, you can also add 1 teaspoon flax seeds to it.

Use it like this,
You can use it in rice, dosa, idli, vegetables, chutney etc. This is a very tasty and healthy spice, which instantly enhances the taste of food.
