The controversy had arisen when leaders and several ministers of the island nation Maldives had made derogatory remarks on Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep. On this matter, the Maldives government had also suspended its three ministers from their posts on January 7 last.
Amid a diplomatic row with India, Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu, during his first visit to China, in Beijing on Thursday (January 11) said he ‘strongly opposes external interference’ in the internal affairs of the Maldives and supports the island nation’s Support it in maintaining sovereignty and independence.
This was said in the joint statement of Maldives and China
A joint statement was also issued after Muizzu’s talks with top Chinese leaders. It said, ‘Both sides agree to continue to strongly support each other to protect their core interests.’
Mohammad Muizzu’s appeal to send more tourists from China
During this, Maldives had also requested China to cooperate in ‘accelerating’ efforts to send more tourists to the island nation. Maldivian President Muizzu also met his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Wednesday (January 10). After this, 20 important agreements were also signed between the two countries.
