According to a report in Financial Express, the victim of the scam is a 55-year-old Italian man living in Hong Kong. The man was matched with a woman on Tinder and formed a romantic relationship with her. Later both shared WhatsApp numbers and started chatting on WhatsApp. After the two developed a relationship, the impersonator lured the victim into signing into a fake trading website in order to invest in digital currency. The cyber thug told the victim that investing in digital currency can fetch high returns.

The report further revealed that the 55-year-old Italian man, after establishing a relationship, believed the fake person’s words, and transferred a total of 14.2 million Hong Kong dollars to nine different bank accounts, which translates to Rs 14 crore in INR. sit more.
