Mandakini’s first film was Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985) which was directed by Raj Kapoor and Raj Kapoor’s younger son Rajiv Kapoor appeared in the lead role in the film.

In 1990, Mandakini’s name was linked with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. When Mandakini was found with Dawood in Dubai, the Indian police arrested her. When she was questioned after this, Mandakini said that it was a by-chance meeting and she has nothing to do with Dawood.
All these cases ruined Mandakini’s film career. In 1990, when Mandakini was out of the Dawood case, she married Buddhist monk Dr. Kagyur T Rinpoche Thakur and adopted Buddhism. Mandakini has two children and she is living her normal life.
