Jiribam has been a victim of unrest for 18 months.
Jiribam district of Manipur has remained the center of violence for the last one year. Incidents of violence between Kuki and Meitei communities are continuously coming to light in the state. The court had ordered the state government to consider extending the government benefits and quota available to the Kuki community to the Meitei community. Due to the importance of the Jiribam-Imphal highway and the railway line, this area is a victim of the battle for supremacy because it is from here that all the essential commodities reach Imphal. This dispute has directly affected both the communities living there who want to maintain it under their influence.
