Manipur Violence: Amidst the violence in Manipur for more than a year, on Tuesday (October 15), for the first time, talks took place between the leaders of Kuki and Meitei communities in Delhi. This meeting is very important as part of the peace initiative in the state by the Central Government. In this meeting, a consensus has been reached on peace between the two communities.
In this meeting which lasted for about 2 hours, restoration of peace in Manipur was discussed. Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra was also present in the meeting. A group of elected members of Manipur Assembly participated in this meeting. This group represents the Kuki, Meitei and Naga communities.
This happened for the first time after the violence in Manipur
The situation of violence in Manipur has been continuing for 17 months. Under these circumstances, this is the first big meeting of this kind, in which representatives of all sections have participated in the presence of representatives of the Central Government. 9 representatives of Meitei, 4 of Naga and 5 representatives of Kuki community were present in the meeting. The main agenda of the meeting was how to take the peace process forward in the state.
Consensus reached on this matter in the meeting
The meeting unanimously resolved to appeal to people of all communities in the state to shun the path of violence so that precious lives of innocent civilians are not lost. AK Mishra along with other senior officials from the Home Ministry were present in the meeting. Although the Home Minister Amit Shah And Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh did not attend this meeting.
The caste tension began on 3 May 2023 when the All Tribal Students Union (ATSU) organized a rally against the demand to include the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category. More than 200 people lost their lives in the violence and about 50,000 people were displaced.
