Masaba Gupta recently gave an interview to Faye D’Souza. During this, she said, ‘Now I know why my father felt so strongly about it (racism) for so many years. To this day, if you ask him, he will have tears in his eyes or he will be so angry that he will answer with great pride. He grew up in the worst times. He played professional cricket at a time when your skin color came in the way of your ability to move forward in the world. It is there, everywhere. Unless we fight for it, it will keep being talked about and this will happen only when everyone fights for it.’
Masaba also gave a statement on racism regarding the child to be born
Let us tell you that these days Masaba is pregnant. She told that people give racist advice about her unborn child. Masaba said that, just yesterday it happened to me that a person came to me and was telling me, ‘You should eat a rasgulla every day’ because your child has to be lighter than you. And then, 15 days before that when I was getting a pre-delivery massage, because that’s what I do, and she (her masseuse) told me, ‘Aap na doodh liya karo (You should not consume milk, should not have, whatever). Your child should not be dark).’
