For years, people have been saying that a nail was put in the growing Shivling, due to which the length of the Shivling had stopped increasing, but what is the truth behind this mystery, know from the priest who has been worshiping in this temple for generations…

Babulal Gautam, priest of Matangeshwar Mahadev temple, while talking to Local 18, tells that this Shivalinga is very old. It is told in the article that the higher it is, the lower it is. This Shivalinga is 9 feet above and 9 feet below. This Shivalinga is of total height of 18 feet. This temple was built first. This temple was built in the 8th-9th century and the rest of the temples with artwork were built in the 10th-11th century.

This is the secret of the nail stuck in Shivalinga
The priest says that this Shivalinga grows every year equal to one grain of rice. With increasing growth, this Shivling has become 18 feet tall. At that time, Shivlinga was measured every year on Sharad Purnima. In view of its increasing length, Shivlinga was touched with nails using mantras. Due to which the rapid pace of increasing length of Shivalinga was stabilised. However, even today it is believed that the length of Shivalinga increases every year. People tell this history of Shivling in their own way. Educated people know very well that all stones grow. It is natural that when a nail is driven into a stone, the stone gets separated or a crack appears on it. If something like this had happened then there would have been lines at the Shivalinga.

Worship has been happening since Chandela era
Priests say that worship has been happening in this temple since the time of Chandela kings. Even today Aarti is performed here in the morning and evening.

wishes come true
The priest says that by touching the Shivalinga with the hand, the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled. By touching it with the hand, devotees realize that their wishes are fulfilled.

Story behind Shivalinga
Lord Shiva had Markand Mani which he gave to Yudhishthir. He gave it to Matanga Rishi, who then gave it to Harshavardhana. It is believed that he buried it in the ground as there was no one to take care of it and a Shivalinga started growing around the gem on its own. Due to the presence of Mani Matang Rishi, it was named Matangeshwar.

This temple is included in world heritage
Priests say that lakhs of devotees come here to worship in the new year. However, every day thousands of devotees come here with their wishes. Let us tell you, UNESCO has given place to Matangeshwar Mahadev as a world heritage. There is evidence of the existence of 85 temples here in history, but today only 25 temples are left.
