Medical education in America is very expensive. The annual fees in an average medical school can range from $40,000 to $60,000 (about Rs 33 to 50 lakh). If we talk about the entire course, the total cost can range from Rs 2 to 3 crores. Along with this, accommodation and food expenses are also included, which can range from $15,000 to $20,000 annually. Thus, medical studies in America are many times more expensive than in India.
Cost of MBBS in India
The fees of government medical colleges in India are very less as compared to America. In government colleges, the annual fee can range from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh, while in private colleges it can range from Rs 10 to 20 lakh per year. That means the total cost of MBBS in India can be around Rs 5 to 10 lakh (government colleges) and up to Rs 50 lakh (private colleges).
Challenges of medical education in America
It is very difficult to get admission in medical schools in America. For this one has to give Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), which is quite challenging. To practice in America, one has to pass the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination), which is done in three stages. It takes a long time for a student to study medicine and then practice.
