To prevent ragging, a district level anti-ragging committee has been formed in Aligarh. Media and student representatives have not been given a place in this committee. In their place, the District Sports Officer, Regional Higher Education Officer, District School Inspector have been made members of the committee, while there is no mention of them in the letter issued by the Secretary of UGC.

On 18th April, UGC Secretary Manish R Joshi had issued a letter to the Chief Secretary, District Magistrate and Police Officers of all the states. In this, it was asked to form a district level anti-ragging committee to prevent ragging in schools, colleges and degree colleges. The District Magistrate will be the chairman of the committee and it was to include the head of the university, college or institute, SSP, ADM Secretary, representative of local media, representative of NGO actively involved in youth development programs, representative of student organizations.

The Information Department has issued a notification on the formation of a district level anti-ragging committee on May 27. In this, the District Magistrate has been nominated as the Chairman, SSP, head of university, college or institute and representative of NGO actively involved in youth development programs, DO PRD, District Sports Officer, Regional Higher Education Officer, District School Inspector, Additional District City Magistrate has been nominated as the Member Secretary. Representatives of student organizations and local media have not been included in it.

DM Visakh ji said that ragging is a punishable offence. The University Grants Commission has made rules to prevent and end the menace of ragging. It has been made mandatory to implement these rules in all higher educational institutions. As per the order of the Supreme Court, a district level anti-ragging committee has been formed.
