The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.

Apart from the ruling party BJP and the main opposition Congress, other parties have also been winning in the elections held on Mahmedabad assembly seat in Kheda district. BJP’s performance in this seat has been good. Arjun Singh Chauhan, the sitting MLA from here, was the BJP candidate this time too. Arjun Singh Chauhan of BJP defeated Juwan Singh Chauhan of INC with a huge margin of 45,604 votes. Arjun Singh got a total of 1,08,541 votes. Whereas, Congress’s Juwan Singh Chauhan had to satisfy with 62,937 votes. The AAP candidate could not even save his deposit. AAP’s Pramodbhai Chauhan got only 4,363 votes. Apart from this, the deposits of three other independent candidates were also forfeited. 3,535 voters of Mahmedabad pressed the NOTA button.

BJP won here in 2017
The BJP had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, BJP candidate Arjun Singh Chauhan defeated Gautam Bhai Chauhan of Congress by 20,000 votes. A total of four candidates were in the fray in this election. Except the candidates of BJP and Congress, the deposits of the remaining two were forfeited. Prior to 2017, this seat was won by the Congress in the 2012 elections. Gautam Bhai Chauhan, who contested from Congress, defeated BJP candidate Surendra Singh Chauhan.
Out of the total 14 elections held so far on this seat, BJP has won from here six times. At the same time, thrice Congress candidates have been successful in winning from here.

BJP had fielded the sitting MLA
For the 2022 elections, the BJP had fielded sitting MLA Arjun Singh Chauhan on this seat. At the same time, the Congress had made Juwan Singh Chauhan its candidate from here. Pramodbhai Chauhan was in the fray from the Aam Aadmi Party. Polling was held on this seat in the second phase on December 5. The results came on 8 December.

Mahmedabad seat comes in Kheda district. There are total six assembly seats in this district. In 2017, BJP had won three out of six seats in the district. Whereas, the Congress was successful in winning only three seats.
