Scientists have achieved great success in using new DNA techniques to locate the remains of descendants of the family of America’s famous former President George Washington. This success has been achieved in the study of scattered bones found from the cemetery of the Harewood family in West Virginia, America. Now researchers say that they will use this technology for a special purpose for American soldiers.
Miracle of DNA technology, remains of George Washington’s descendants discovered, will now be of special use for American soldiers – DNA technology identifies remains of George Washington’s family members now US soldiers
After this, these techniques will be used to search for the remains of those American soldiers who died for America in the battles fought around the world till World War II. The study’s lead author, Courtney Cavagnino, of the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory (AFMES-AFDIL) of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner System, says the success of testing the Harewood chemical remains inspired them to take this step.

Currently, work is being done in the laboratory to validate these techniques for use in everyday cases. AFMES-AFDIL is now the only human remains DNA laboratory of the US Department of Defense. Along with daily operations, it also helps in operations like identifying members of military units.
Recently, the AFMES-AFDIL team identified the remains found in the graves of Harewood cemetery. In this, scientists conducted a lot of DNA testing which included the remains of George Washington’s family members. For this he also took the help of DNA of many living descendants.
Now after the success of this test, these techniques will be used to search and identify the remains of soldiers who lost their lives wherever American soldiers have fought since World War II. Apart from this, research will also be done on other uses of the technologies.
