During an interview with India Today, Mithun talked about his initial struggles in the film industry and described the journey as difficult and painful.
He told why he never wanted to write his autobiography, he was afraid that his story would disappoint the youth instead of inspiring them.
Reminiscing about his past, Mithun recalled the days when he did not get food and sometimes had to sleep on the streets. Mithun said, ‘Many people ask me why I don’t write my autobiography. I say no because my story will not inspire people. This will disappoint them. This will break the spirit of those young boys who are struggling. He further said, ‘It is so difficult, so painful, so painful.’
Mithun also revealed that he had become arrogant after winning the National Award for ‘Mrigaya’ and compared his attitude to that of Al Pacino.
Mithun said, ‘I started acting like Al Pacino. I felt like I was the greatest actor. My attitude changed so much that a producer saw it and said, ‘Get out.’ After this he realized his mistake.
Mithun revealed that after learning this important life lesson, he had taken a career-defining decision to not do art films until he became a star.
Mithun further said that he cannot believe that he is getting the country’s highest film award. The actor said, “I came out of the dark alleys of Kolkata and reached Bombay and my journey was very difficult. Some days I would sleep on the footpath and some days I would be able to eat food.”
“He still finds it difficult to understand the reality of his achievement,” the veteran actor said, adding that he is “still in awe.”
Mithun said, ‘I can neither laugh with happiness nor cry with happiness.’
