Expansion

Due to the work done by Kanpur Municipal Corporation, the level of air pollution in the city has declined by more than 25 percent in the last two years. Good days have also increased to 235 in the current financial year. There is a possibility of further increase in these after a month. At the same time, the Municipal Corporation has prepared an estimate of the proposed works to control air pollution. However, the 15th Finance meeting is awaited for approval of these works.

Due to lack of approval, neither broken roads, footpaths are being built nor greenery is being increased. This city, which is among the most polluted cities of the country, has been given a target of reducing PM-10 by 15 percent every year and increasing the number of good days by 15 percent, along with allocating funds to control air pollution.

Good day is the day on which the amount of pollution remains below 200 AQI. According to municipal corporation records, PM-10 was 127 micro grams per meter cube in the financial year 2022-23. Which came down to the level of 107.95 this year. Thus, a decline of 25 percent was recorded.

Earlier in the financial year 2021-22, PM-10 was 156 micro grams per meter cube, which was targeted to be reduced to 132 in the financial year 2022-23. Similarly, 247 good days were recorded in the last financial year 2022-23, which was 35 percent more than the financial year 2021-22. According to the records till November in the current financial year, there have been 235 good days.
