The 2024-25 sugarcane crushing season at Sugauli Sugar Mill, Motihari was inaugurated by Motihari District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal. On this occasion, Deputy General Manager (Sugarcane) of the sugar mill, Shailendra Kumar Mishra inaugurated the crushing machinery, weighing bridges and by duly worshiping the farmers, carters and bullocks who brought the sugarcane. Block Development Officer Nutan Kiran, Circle Officer Kundan Kumar and many district administration officials were present in the inaugural program.
The mill management has set a target of crushing 50 lakh quintals of sugarcane for the session, which it plans to complete in the next 150 days. General Manager Vijay Kumar Dixit said that the operation of the mill will start from November 9, so that farmers will be able to get the benefit of sugarcane supply on time. There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the farmers due to the timely start of the session, as they will be able to vacate their fields early after sugarcane harvesting and cultivate Rabi crops like potatoes, pulses and oilseeds.
Dixit said that this year also the sugar mill will ensure correct weighing and timely payment to the farmers like before. Urging the farmers to cultivate sugarcane in more area, he said that sugarcane is a safer and profitable crop as compared to other crops in Sugauli region. Often other crops get destroyed due to adverse conditions like floods and drought, but sugarcane is able to withstand such difficult conditions. In such a situation, by promoting sugarcane cultivation, farmers can avoid the risks associated with the cultivation of other crops and strengthen their economic condition.
This initiative will provide relief and encouragement to sugarcane farmers. This joint initiative of the district administration and the sugar mill aims not only to increase sugar production but also to make local farmers self-reliant.
