Retelling an incident from a time, the actor told how he had to fill his stomach with just Rs 12 and sometimes had to survive by drinking only water. He used to get money from home for survival because he was looking for work at that time. Rajkumar Rao told that it was around the year 2009 when he used to give auditions at 10-10 places in a day.
The money used to run out in travel and when he checked his account, only 18 rupees were left. Rajkumar still remembers that period and that is why he is able to stay down to earth. Rajkumar Rao told that his mother supported him a lot and whatever he is today is because of his mother. Rajkumar Rao was given his first opportunity by Ram Gopal Varma in the film Rann (2010) in which he had a small role.

In the year 2010 itself, Rajkumar Rao was seen as the lead actor in Ekta Kapoor’s film LSD. After this Rajkumar Rao appeared in both the parts of the film Gangs of Wasseypur. Rajkumar Rao got recognition from the film Kai Po Che (2013) in which Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh were also seen with him for the first time and this film was successful.
