What is MSP?
The minimum support price set by the government is the amount at which government purchases of crops take place. The prices of these crops in the market may sometimes be above or below the MSP, but the main objective of MSP is to secure the income of the farmers. The government purchases agricultural produce in large quantities to ensure food security, which motivates farmers to sow crops.
