ED Investigation: ED’s investigation started on the basis of an FIR lodged by Lokayukta Police, Mysuru. This FIR was registered under different sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860 and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. It is alleged that Siddaramaiah, using his political influence, obtained 14 plots as compensation in the name of his wife BM Parvati. This compensation was given in exchange of three acres and 16 guntas of land which was acquired by MUDA for only Rs 3,24,700. According to the information, the current price of these 14 plots is said to be around Rs 56 crore.
According to the report of news agency ANI, during the investigation it was also revealed that apart from the 14 plots allotted to BM Parvati, many other plots were also irregularly given by MUDA to real estate businessmen as compensation. These businessmen collected cash by selling these plots at huge profits and showed it as income generated from legitimate sources. ED said that many plots were allotted in the benami names of influential persons and businessmen.
Allegations of irregularities against former MUDA Commissioner
The investigation also revealed that the role of the then MUDA Commissioner DB Natesh was important in this irregularity. It is alleged that these officials obtained illegal gains in the form of properties, cash and other resources. ED said that these illegal funds were used to purchase properties and luxury vehicles through cooperative societies. These properties were registered in the name of relatives of former MUDA commissioner GT Dinesh Kumar.
Enforcement Directorate hinted at new revelations
The Enforcement Directorate has also indicated that there may be many more revelations in this case. At present the seized properties and the source of the illegal funds are being investigated. The agency says that this money laundering case will be reached to the bottom by bringing all the culprits within the ambit of the law.
