Mukhtar Ansari, who was the uncrowned king of the world of Jarayam in Purvanchal, also had an involvement in politics for almost two decades. He not only decided candidates on many seats but was also successful in defeating and winning them. His political stature can also be gauged from the fact that apart from becoming an MLA himself, he also remained a means of winning elections for many parties.

Mukhtar Ansari, born on June 3, 1963 in a freedom fighter family in Mohammadabad district of Mau, entered the world of music in his youth. After maintaining all kinds of criminal records including murder, riot, gang war, Mukhtar entered the political arena in 1995. At that time there was an alliance between Janata Dal and Communist Party. He contested from Ghazipur Sadar assembly seat on Communist Party ticket, but faced defeat. After this he joined BSP. In the year 1996, he became MLA from Mau for the first time on BSP ticket. After this he changed sides and contested elections as an independent in 2002 and 2007 and was successful in reaching the House. After this, along with his brother Afzal Ansari, he formed Quami Ekta Dal. In the 2012 elections, he won for the fourth time on the ticket of Qaumi Ekta Dal. In 2017, just before the elections, he again joined BSP and managed to become MLA from Mau for the fifth time.

Dominance in many districts

Mukhtar Ansari increased his political influence after becoming an independent MLA from Mau again. He was successful in getting tickets for his people in many parties. Meanwhile, gang wars took place one after another in Purvanchal. Political entry of mafia increased. The result was that he not only played a role in getting the ticket but also in making it win.

After 2002, he expanded his political stature to Mau, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Chandauli, Varanasi and Jaunpur. After forming Quami Ekta Dal, he started holding public meetings in these districts citing the organization. This was the reason why he became famous in many districts of Purvanchal.

He used to change his team depending on the direction of the wind.

Mukhtar Ansari has a history of contesting every election either with different political parties or as an independent. He used to change parties after sensing the direction of political wind.

Relations with SP kept deteriorating

Baahubali Mukhtar Ansari’s relations with SP kept deteriorating. Before joining BSP in 2017, he announced the merger of his party with SP, but at the same time Akhilesh Yadav opposed it. The result was that he left SP and joined BSP and was successful in becoming MLA.

In 2009, Varanasi also failed in Lok Sabha.

Bahubali Mukhtar has not only been an MLA five times but also announced to enter the Lok Sabha. He contested the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi on BSP ticket. But he had to face defeat. At that time, BJP candidate from Varanasi was Murli Manohar Joshi. He defeated by 17 thousand votes. The special thing was that Mukhtar Ansari had succeeded in getting 27 percent votes.
