Another way to prepare it is to mix a teaspoon of honey and a little licorice powder in lukewarm water. It can help in curing dry cough. You can also take a piece of licorice root, mix in a few leaves of basil and mint, or garden mint and let it simmer on low heat for 10 minutes. Strain the leaves and roots and drink hot or lukewarm.

Chewing a sprig of licorice/liquorice is also an effective remedy for sore throat and hoarse voice. Liquorice is known to boost immunity, keeping diseases and infections at bay. It is considered beneficial for people with high cholesterol as the antioxidants present in the herb help in dilating the blood vessels.
