Measles in Mumbai: Measles infection is not taking its name in Mumbai. Six new patients infected with measles have been found again on Friday (December 23), due to which the total number of patients suffering from measles has now increased to 512, while there is a relief that after the death of nine patients after getting infected with measles, there has been no death till now. And the patient has not died. An official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that there have also been five suspected deaths in the city, in which it is yet to be confirmed whether these deaths are due to measles or some other reason.
A BMC release said that 27 children were admitted to hospitals during the day on Friday and 25 children were discharged from the hospital after recovering. The official said that “Out of 335 beds earmarked for measles treatment, currently only 116 beds are occupied. Out of 20 ventilator beds, only four patients have needed it. The rest are vacant.”
Measles vaccination is going on fast
The release also said that out of 2,60,739 children in the age group of 9 months to 5 years, 73,609 children were given an additional dose of measles-rubella special vaccine at 78 health centres. And of 5,293 children in the age group of 6 to 9 months, where measles cases under 9 months account for more than 10 percent of total laboratory-confirmed cases, 1,849 were given ‘zero dose’ of the MR vaccine.

According to the report of the state health department, till December 22, the number of measles cases in Maharashtra has increased to 1158, while the number of deaths due to measles is 20. The department has started a special campaign to give additional supplements to children in the age group of 9 months to 5 years at an interval of 28 days from 15th December. A health department release said that 48,934 first dose and 47,721 doses of MR have been administered through 12,004 additional vaccination sessions under the special drive across the state.
