A freedom fighter museum will be built in Karkhiyan of Pindra assembly constituency of Varanasi district at a cost of Rs 20 crore. Information related to 26 freedom fighters of the village will be preserved here. A gaming zone and a food court will also be built here. Along with this, a pathway will be built around the pond and a 51 feet high martyr’s column will be constructed. The tricolor will be hoisted on it.

Deputy Director Tourism RK Rawat said that the proposal has been prepared and sent to the government. It is hoped that the proposal will get the green signal soon. The tourism department has made preparations. Regional MLA Dr. Awadhesh Singh said that information about 26 freedom fighters will be given by putting up their life-size photographs in the museum. Also, the tourism department officials will soon start a campaign to collect the items of the freedom fighters from their family members. These items will be preserved in the museum.

Apart from this, link road from the main road to the museum, solar panels for lighting, benches, reading room and toilet facilities will be provided. It was told that from the first freedom struggle (1857) to the independence of the country in 1947, the people of Karkhiyan village of Varanasi had raised their voice against the British. Last year in December, Martyr’s Day was also celebrated here for 3 days.

Surasati Devi, Kalawati Devi, Gangatali Devi, Naurangi Devi, Narayan Mishra, Vasdev Mishra, Aadya Narayan, Avadh Narayan Singh, Jayshree Singh, Mahesh Singh, Wali Singh, Khiddir alias Jagdev, Ramnarayan alias Chhinauti Singh, Babunandan, Charitwar, Bhagwanta Yadav, Bhagwati, Ramkripal Maurya, Luppur Maurya, Vasdev Singh, Vanshraj Singh, Shrinarayan, Devmurti Sharma, Ramkaran Yadav, Vipat Pal.
