In Satyayuga there was a very cruel demon named Hiranyakashipu. Through rigorous penance, he had obtained a boon from Lord Brahma that neither man nor animal could kill him, neither during the day nor at night, neither inside nor outside the house, nor with any weapon. He can be killed with a weapon. After receiving the boon, he became arrogant and started considering himself as God. His atrocities on people increased. Everyone in the three worlds became troubled by him.
Prahlad was tortured like this
Hiranyakashipu wanted people to worship him and not Lord Vishnu. Prahalad, son of demon king Hiranyakashipu, was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. In the evening, Lord Vishnu took Hiranyakashipu to the threshold of the house and lifted him in his lap and tore the chest of Hiranyakashipu with his nails.
