Brazil is the country most affected by dengue. About 4.25 lakh dengue cases have been reported between January and April 2024. This is 1.8 percent of the total population. Till now, more than 2 thousand people have died due to this disease. This is the highest number of deaths due to dengue fever so far.

Dengue cases occur every year in Central American countries and Mexico. Whereas very few cases have been seen in Chile and Uruguay. According to the American Health Organization, an organization working with the ‘World Health Organization’, fewer cases are coming to Uruguay than before.
Reason behind increase in dengue cases
The reason behind this is believed to be climate change. In the last 30 years, the temperature in Latin American countries has increased by 0.2 degrees Celsius every decade. According to the State of the Climate in Latin America and the Caribbean report for the year 2022, not only the climate is changing but the number of mosquitoes has also increased more than before. The most surprising thing is that different species of mosquitoes also grow in hot temperatures. This is the reason why the situation is worsening in Latin America and the Caribbean.
El Nino pattern is also a reason
When the temperature drops below 15 degrees Celsius in winter, mosquitoes reduce in this temperature. These temperatures are not even possible to reach in these countries. At the same time, due to El Nino pattern the number of mosquitoes has also increased. Due to which the temperature in these areas has increased significantly. This weather pattern has started in the Caribbean and Latin America since last year.
What did the World Health Organization say about dengue?
The havoc of dengue has increased very rapidly in Latin America and Caribbean countries. Due to this, the need for vaccine for this disease has also increased. Many things have been said about dengue vaccine. According to the research of the World Health Organization, if people who have not had dengue take the vaccine, then the first time they get dengue, it can be much more serious. Therefore, WHO says that whenever a mosquito bites, drink more fluids and take medicines to avoid infection.
There are no dengue mosquitoes in these countries
