The National Testing Agency was established in 2017. It was approved by the Union Cabinet. After which the Ministry of Human Resource Development formed the NTA. The main work of this agency is to conduct efficient, transparent and international standard examinations at the national level for admission to higher education and various government institutions.
The National Testing Agency was established under the Indian Institutions Registration Act 1860. It is an autonomous body that conducts entrance exams for admission and scholarships in higher educational institutions in the country. The chairperson of this agency is Prof. Pradeep Kumar Joshi, who has also been the former chairman of UPSC. The director general of this agency is IAS Subodh Kumar Singh. Apart from this, directors of many institutes and vice-chancellors of some universities also come in the governing body of NTA. The National Testing Agency has a team of education administrators, experts, researchers and assessment developers.
The agency conducts many major exams
The National Testing Agency is responsible for conducting many major examinations. The agency organizes the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains exam. Apart from this, the agency organizes the UGC NET exam. Along with this, the agency also organizes the major medical field exam, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate NEET UG and NEET PG.

The National Examination Agency conducts exams like Common Management cum Admission Test (CMAT), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade Entrance Test, National Institute of Fashion Technology Entrance Exam, Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test (JIPMAT), All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET). Some of these exams are conducted once a year and some twice a year.
