Patna High Court on Friday granted the remand of 13 people arrested by the Economic Offences Unit in the NEET-UG paper leak case to the CBI. The CBI team will interrogate them. On Thursday, a Patna court granted the remand of Rocky alias Rakesh Ranjan to the CBI. Rakesh is the nephew of Sanjeev Mukhiya. In fact, the CBI’s petition was rejected by the Special Magistrate, CBI, Patna on July 2 on the ground that the statutory period seeking police custody within the first 15 days after the arrest had expired.

CBI had sought permission from the court

The CBI challenged this order in the Patna High Court, saying that it had started the investigation in June and it should be given a chance to interrogate the suspects arrested by the state police. The CBI had said that the accused arrested by the state police did not even get 15 days of police custody. If sources are to be believed, the accused were in the custody of Patna Police and Economic Offenses Unit of Bihar Police for only two to four days and were sent to judicial custody. At the same time, the CBI argued that it could be given custody of these accused for the remaining period of police remand, which could be up to 11-13 days, which was approved by the Patna High Court.

Six FIRs registered with 57 arrests

Here, Justice Sandeep Kumar said that keeping in mind the seriousness of the matter and in the interest of justice, the implementation of the order passed by the special magistrate will be stayed. On Friday itself, he directed the exclusive magistrate to give the custody of 13 accused to the CBI. The special CBI court will give remand to the CBI on presenting the webcopy. Let us tell you that in the NEET UG paper leak case, the CBI has so far registered six FIRs with about 57 arrests. Of these, 12 were made by the central agency, while the rest were made by various state police forces. So far 22 people have got bail.
