Apple iOS update: Apple has released an emergency security update in the form of iOS 18.3.1 and iPados 18.3.1. The company has urged all iPhone and iPad users to install it immediately, as this update fixes a serious zero-day security flaw. According to Apple, this flaw is already being misused in “very complex” targeted attacks, so it is necessary to install it as soon as possible.
What is this security flaw?
This safety flaw has been identified as the CVE-2025-24200 and was first discovered by Bill Marczak, the researcher of Citizen Lab. According to Apple, it is a problem associated with Authorization, which can bypass important security measures. It also includes USB restricted mode, designed to prevent data access without permission in the locked device. Apple said, “We have received a report that this flaw has already been misused in highly complex attacks.”
What will be fine with this new update of Apple?
According to Apple, this flaw was affecting USB restricted mode. This security feature was introduced in iOS 11.4.1, which prevents USB accessories from installing data connections after a device remained locked for more than an hour.
Now using this flaw discovered, the attackers could disable this security feature, causing the sensitive data of the device to be in danger. This was especially more risky during physical attachment (when hackers achieve direct access to the device).
Which devices will be affected?
This safety flaws are affecting many apple devices, including.
- iPhone XS and subsequent models
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (third generation and subsequent models)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (first generation and subsequent models)
- iPad Air (Third generation and later models)
- iPad (seventh generation and subsequent models)
- iPad Mini (Fifth generation and later models)
Older models such as iPad Pro 12.9-inch (second generation), iPad Pro 10.5-inch, and iPad (sixth generation) are also influenced by this flaw.
How to install update?
Apple has fixed this problem in iOS 18.3.1, iPados 18.3.1, and iPados 17.7.5 updates. Follow the following steps to install it.
