By observing this fast, the sin of eating food on other Ekadashis is forgiven and one also gets the benefit of the virtues of Ekadashis throughout the year.

In such a situation, the sage asked him to observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast which gives the fruits of all the Ekadashi fasts of the year, but he could not consume food or water in this fast. Bhima decided to observe the Nirjala Ekadashi fast instead of all the Ekadashi fasts of the year, due to which all his sins were washed away and he got all the happiness. Since then it is called Bhimaseni Ekadashi.

This Ekadashi is special because water is not consumed on this day. In the month of Jyeshtha, the days are long and hot (Jyeshtha Hot season), so one feels thirsty.
