Be it a TV debate or a debate on social media…often people who talk about Islam include the entire Muslim community in their coat of arms. But do you know that there are many sects in the Muslim community and each has its own rules and regulations. That is, it is not at all the case that the Islamic law that a Sunni believes in is the same Islamic law that a Shia also believes in.
It is true that both Shia and Sunni agree that Allah is one and Mohammed is one. Sahib is his messenger and Quran is the heavenly book i.e. the book sent by Allah. But both communities seem divided over beliefs and the issue of Prophet Mohammed’s successor after his death. Even the Islamic laws of these two are different in some matters. First understand Sunni
It is believed that all the followers of Islam around the world There are people, 80 to 85 percent of them are Sunni Muslims. The word Sunni comes from Sunnah. That is, those people who live their lives in the same way as Prophet Mohammad Sahab lived in 570-632 AD. Sunni people consider Prophet Mohammad’s father-in-law Hazrat Abu Bakr as his successor.
After Hazrat Abu Bakr, the people whom Sunnis consider as Prophet Mohammad’s successors include Hazrat Umar, Hazrat Usman and Hazrat Ali. All the people who came after this were considered by Sunni Muslims as their leaders, but only politically. Religiously, only these four people are considered by Sunni Muslims as their Khulafa-e-Rashidin after Prophet Mohammad, i.e. those who follow the right direction.
There are different sects among Sunni also >
Hanafi- People who follow Imam Abu Hanifa call themselves Hanafi Muslims. However, these too are divided into two groups. One is Deobandi and the other calls himself Barelvi.
Maliki- Muslims who believe in Imam Malik call themselves Maliki Muslims. However, their number is less in Asia. The followers of Imam Malik follow only the rules given by him. This community mainly lives in the Middle East Asia and North Africa.
Shafai – Shafai is a disciple of Imam Malik and is considered the third major Imam of Sunnis. A large section of the Muslim community follows the paths shown by him. This community also lives in Middle East Asia and African countries.
Hambali- Muslims who believe in Imam Hanbal call themselves Hambali. People of this community live in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Middle East and many African countries. Let us tell you, the official Shariat of Saudi Arabia is based on the religious laws of Imam Hambal.
Wahabi – This community is also known as Salafi and Ahl Hadith. This community believes that to understand Shariat and follow it correctly, one should study the Quran and Hadith directly. The people of this community are considered very fundamentalist communally and very fanatic in religious matters.
Sunni Bohra – This community is seen as a business community among Muslims. They live in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Sindh province of Pakistan. The Bohra community is both Shia and Sunni. Sunni Bohra believes in Hanafi Islamic law.
Ahmadiya- People of Ahmadiya community also believe in Hanafi Islamic law. It is said about this community that it was founded by Mirza Ghulam Ahmed in Qadian, Punjab, India. Muslims of this sect believe that Mirza Ghulam Ahmed was an incarnation of the Prophet himself.
Now understand Shia
Shia Muslims, Allah is one and They believe that Mohammed Sahib is their messenger and that the Quran is a heavenly book, but their Islamic laws are quite different from those of Sunni Muslims. Shias believe that after Prophet Mohammed, Imams were appointed and not Caliphs. After Prophet Mohammad, Shia Muslims consider his son-in-law Hazrat Ali as his real successor. Whereas Sunni Muslims see his father-in-law Hazrat Abu Bakr as the successor of Prophet Mohammed.
Many sects among Shia Muslims also
Isna Ashari-The largest sect among Shia Muslims is the Isna Ashari group. These people believe in twelve Imams. Let us tell you, about 75 percent of the world’s Shias belong to this group.
Zaidya – The second largest group of Shia Muslims is Zaidiya. This community believes in only five Imams instead of twelve.
Ismaili Shia-Ismaili Shia Muslims believe in neither twelve nor four, they believe in seven Imams. This community was called Ismaili Shia because their last Imam is Mohammad bin Ismail.
Dawoodi Bohra – Dawoodi Bohra is a business community and they believe in 21 Imams. The last Imam of Dawoodi Bohra was Imam Tayyab Abul Qasim.
Khoja – People of this community follow both Shia and Sunni Islamic laws. This community is a merchant community of Gujarat and had accepted Islam only a few centuries ago.
