Khoya Tilakut is prepared in a simple way
As soon as winter starts, the market starts becoming fragrant with the smell of Tilkut. Artisan Sonu Faruqui, resident of Ward No. 13 of Bhabhua city, has been making Khoya Tilkut for many years. Sonu Faruqui told that Khoya Tilkut is also prepared in a simple way. In this, first of all the sesame seeds are roasted. After this, sugar powder is prepared and after sugar powder is ready, roasted sesame seeds are stirred and mixed.

Sugar powder is mixed with sesame seeds and pounded with an iron mortar. After this add khoya as per requirement. After this it is shaped into Tilkut. Manufacturing and selling of Tilkut starts from the beginning of December. However, its price is much higher than other sweets. While Khoya and Chhena sweets are sold at the rate of Rs 200 to 250 per kg, Tilkut is sold at the rate of Rs 300 to 450 per kg. Demand remains at its peak on Makar Sankranti.

Sonu Faruqui makes 5 to 7 varieties of Tilkut.
Artisan Sonu Farooqui told that during Makar Sankranti, people like to send messages to their relatives by buying Tilkut made in the market along with home-made Lai and Tilva. It tastes very good and there is a tradition of sending it before Makar Sankranti. Generally the price of Tilkut is Rs 300 to Rs 450 per kg, but during Makar Sankranti it can become even more expensive.

Sonu Faruqui told that Tilakut with jaggery has less sweetness. Therefore its sales are high and people suffering from diabetes can also eat it. He told that here 5 to 7 varieties of Tilkut are prepared in different designs from Khoya, Sugar and Jaggery. Sonu told that Khoya Tilkut has to be sold within 5 days of making, because it has to be kept for a longer period. But it starts melting.
