Many important changes have been made in the Common University Entrance Undergraduate (CUET-UG) related to admission in universities. From the year 2025 i.e. next session, this entire examination will be computer based.
Also, there will not be an option to choose the questions, rather you will have to answer all the questions. Along with this, there will be no compulsion regarding subjects. It is not necessary to give the exam in the same subjects which you have studied in class 12th. Now the exam will have to be given in 37 subjects instead of 63. The duration of the exam will be one hour. Students will be able to take the exam in five subjects only. The validity of the score will be for one academic year only.
A look at the proposal regarding reform in CUET
- This exam will now be of maximum one hour, earlier it used to be of 45 to 60 minutes.
- Now students can take the exam in maximum five subjects only. Earlier in 2024, option of six subjects was given. The option to choose 10 subjects in 2023 and nine in 2022 was given. Students will now get the option of only 37 subjects instead of 63.
- The duration of CUET-PG has also been reduced from 105 minutes to 90 minutes.
- Domain specific subjects have been reduced from 29 to 23, the domain specific papers removed are Entrepreneurship, Teaching, Aptitude and Engineering Graphics.
There will be 50 questions in every paper
In 2024, where 50 out of 60 questions had to be solved in the General Test, 40 out of 50 questions had to be solved in the remaining papers. But, there will be no choice in 2025. There will be 50 questions solved in each paper and the paper will be of 250 marks. Five marks will be awarded for the correct answer and one mark will be awarded for the wrong answer. In this way there will be uniformity in every paper and the process of normalization will also be easy.
Will have to choose from 23 domain subjects
This time the 23 subjects included are Account Book Keeping, Business Studies, Agriculture, Physics, Chemistry, Maths-Applied Mathematics, Biology-Biological Science-Biochemistry-Biotechnology, Performing Arts (Dance, Drama, Music), Fine Art- Visual Arts Commercial Art, Geography, Geology, History, Home Science, Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Sanskrit, Environmental Science, Knowledge Tradition Practice in India, Physical Education (Yoga Sports), Anthropology, Economics Business Economics, Computer Science Informatics Practice.
Paper will have to be chosen from 13 languages
There will be language papers in 13 languages: Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. In the remaining 20 language papers (including foreign languages) which have been removed, admission will be based on the performance in the General Aptitude Test.
The use of CUET was started in 2022. Computer Based Test (CBT) was conducted for the first two years. In the third year 2024, CUET-UG was conducted in hybrid mode, in which offline examination of 15 subjects was conducted.
