KL Rahul’s Reaction: KL Rahul played an important role in helping India win the first match of the World Cup 2023. He came under difficult circumstances against Australia and played an unbeaten inning of 97* (115) runs for the team, which included 8 fours and 2 sixes. Team India had lost 3 wickets for just 2 runs, after which KL Rahul and Virat Kohli made a partnership of 165 runs for the fourth wicket. Now after the match, KL Rahul, who became ‘Player of the Match’, revealed his special plan for victory.
Rahul said after the match, “To be honest, I did not have much conversation (with Virat), I thought I would take a bath and get a break. I was just trying to get my breath back. Virat said that there is a little stretch in the wicket, so play like Test cricket for some time. There was some help for the fast bowlers with the new ball, and then the spinners also got help.”
He further said, “Dew worked in the last 15-20 overs and that was helpful. The ball was sliding well. Although it was somewhat two-way, it was not an easy wicket to bat on and it was not flat either. It was a good cricket wicket, partly for batsmen and bowlers. “This is what you get in South India, especially Chennai.”
Why were you surprised at the last ball?
Rahul ended the match by hitting a six on the last ball. But he was surprised to see his six. Revealing this, he said, “I had hit very well, I had analyzed how I could complete a century in the end. Fours and sixes were the only way out, but there are no regrets in not completing the century.”
