Lord Jagannath Chandan Yatra: A heap of firecrackers exploded during the Chandan Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath in Puri, Odisha on Wednesday (May 29, 2024) night. Fifteen people were burnt in this, police gave this information.
Police said that at the time of the accident, hundreds of people had gathered on the banks of Narendra Pushkarini Sarovar to witness the ritual. According to the police, a group of devotees were bursting fireworks on the occasion when a spark fell on a heap of firecrackers and caused an explosion.
Four are in critical condition
Police said burning firecrackers fell on the people gathered at the spot and some of them jumped into the water body to save themselves. A doctor said the injured were admitted to the district hospital and four of them were in critical condition.

CM Naveen Patnaik expressed grief
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed grief over the incident and directed the concerned officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured. He said that the cost of treatment will be borne from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
