Odisha’s Man Walked With Wife’s Dead Body: A case of walking for several kilometers by hanging the dead body of his wife on his shoulder has come to light in Odisha’s Koraput district. The woman had died in an autorickshaw on Wednesday while returning from a hospital in neighboring Andhra Pradesh. Later, policemen saw Samulu Pangi carrying the body of his wife, 30-year-old Ide Guru, on his shoulder and arranged for an ambulance to take the body to his village.
Wife was admitted in Visakhapatnam hospital
Samulu Pangi, 35, a resident of Koraput district, had admitted his ailing wife to a hospital in Visakhapatnam district of Andhra Pradesh. However, the doctors had advised to take him back home. Samulu’s residence was about 100 km away. Pangi told the police that he called an auto rickshaw to return to his village, but his wife Guru died midway near Vizianagaram.
After this the auto driver refused to go ahead and dropped him on the Chelluru Ring Road on the way. When there was no arrangement, Pangi forcibly kept his wife’s dead body on his shoulder and started walking towards his home. From where Pangi started walking, his house was about 80 kilometers away.

People gave information to the police
When Pangi, finding no other way out, was going towards his home carrying the dead body of his wife on his shoulder, some local people saw him. These people informed the police. After some time, on the information of the local people, the rural circle inspector T.V. Tirupati Rao and Ganatyada sub-inspector Kiran Kumar stopped him. Initially, the Andhra Pradesh policemen were finding it difficult to make out what Pangi was saying due to the language barrier. Later a person was found who understands the language of the person from Odisha. Then the police came to know what happened to him.
Police arranged an ambulance
The police officers, after ascertaining what had happened to Samulu Pangi, arranged for an ambulance. She took Pangi and his wife’s dead body to her village. Wherein Pangi thanked the police for their help. At the same time, the local people appreciated the police for timely action.
The incident was reminiscent of a 2016 incident in Odisha’s Bhawanipatna when another man, Dana Manjhi, carried his wife’s dead body on his shoulders for about 12 kilometers after being denied a hearse by a hospital. This incident had made international headlines and it had become a cause of embarrassment for the government of Odisha.
