Bareilly. On Sunday, Badaun Kotwali police registered an FIR against the accused Manoj for killing a rat by drowning it in a drain. This strange case of killing a rat came to light on Friday, after which the post-mortem of the dead rat was done at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly (IVRI). Vikendra Sharma, an animal lover of Badaun and Honorary Animal Welfare Officer of Indian Animal Welfare Board, drowned a person named Manoj in a drain after tying a stone to a rat’s tail near Panbariya power sub-station in Badaun on Thursday. Saw it happen.
Complainant Vikendra had filed a complaint under the Animal Cruelty Act in Badaun Kotwali for brutally killing the rat, after which the Kotwali police took Manoj into custody and released him after interrogation and the body of the dead rat. Was sent to IVRI Bareilly for postmortem. Scientist Dr. Ashok Kumar did the postmortem of the rat’s body at IVRI Bareilly on Saturday.
Action will be taken after the post mortem report of the rat!
Dr. Pawan Kumar, the officer-in-charge of the post-mortem department, told that the post-mortem has been done. The report will be given to the police by the end of this week. Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. AK Yadav told that killing of rats in this way comes under the Animal Cruelty Act. For this reason, the post-mortem of the dead body of the rat has been done.
Inspector Harpal Singh Balyan said that an FIR has been registered against the accused Manoj under section 429 (disabling or killing any animal). The rat’s post-mortem has been done at Bareilly’s IVRI on Saturday. The post mortem report is expected after 4 to 5 days, after which legal action will be taken.
